The Friends of Whitehills (FOWS) are a team of people who volunteer to raise money for Whitehills Primary School.  Some might like to refer to us as the PTA (Parent Teacher Association).  Most of our members are currently parents of children who are attending the school, with the addition of one or two members of staff.

We are a friendly group who meet up four to five times a year to communicate and plan themed events for the school – and sometimes our whole community – to enjoy; for example, on a couple of occasions, we let the Circus take over our school playing field.  A great family night out for all and hugely successful in terms of fundraising.

Historically, and prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have organised and run many school events for the children and staff to attend, along with their families.  These have included events such as Fashion Shows, Christmas Fayres, Race Nights, Quiz Evenings and, a firm favourite with our children, the regular discos where they can have fun with their school friends.  Alongside this, we sometimes send home activities for children to create a Christmas or Mother’s Day card for their loved ones, which raises a little money too.  We can also raise funds through peoples’ online shopping habits via an Easy Fundraising app.

With the money raised, we endeavour to subsidise at least one school trip per year, per child as a minimum, taking some of the financial pressure off parents who fund the rest of the trip.  We also purchase an educational app for all pupils called DoodleMaths and DoodleEnglish and both are used as part of our homework policy.  Every year, each child also receives a book on their birthday, which they love.  They choose the book from a large selection carefully ordered for their age group by one of our volunteers .  Every Christmas each class receives a special visit from Santa and we provide the gifts for this exciting event.
