Homework

The curriculum at Whitehills is well structured, versatile and thorough.  It is enriched by the professional skills of our teachers.  Our aim is never to become complacent, but to constantly strive to raise standards, enjoying our work along the way.  Homework plays a part in consolidating the learning in class and encouraging our children to be independent learners.  We recently surveyed staff, children and parents about the type and amount of homework set and have amended our homework policy to reflect the responses.

Homework is given to all our children.  The amount differs according to age.  However, there is an expectation that we ask: that the children read regularly to you, learn spellings and number bonds as a minimum.  We use APPs to help with homework such as Times Tables Rock Stars and Numbots.  At the start of the year, homework days are set and these are shared with parents.  Year groups are set the same homework in both classes to support consistency in approach.

If a child is struggling with homework

If children are struggling with homework, or not handing homework in, we will contact you to see if there is anything we can do in school to support your child.  We do offer support for those children who may find homework challenging through a homework club.
