At Whitehills, we feel that home-school links are the most important aspect of a child’s education and these are encouraged in a variety of ways.
We like parents to feel welcome in school at all times, to share with school staff their mutual interest and concern for their child’s education and to be informed of any changes and developments in the school curriculum.
We are regularly in touch with parents through Parentmail, an APP that is easily accessible on all devices; regular newsletters stating all the school’s activities and events and more informally, through Facebook. We endeavour to maintain close contact at all times between parents and teachers and appreciate positive relationships with our school and your family, are key to the success for our children.
A termly learning conference is held during the autumn term for parents to meet the new teachers and see how their children have settled in. A second one is held later in the academic year to discuss progress and targets. At these sessions there will be an opportunity to see your child’s work in detail and to gather information about the progress your child has made along the national curriculum. We use a booking system through Parentmail so you can organise your appointment at a mutually convenient time. We offer both afternoon and evening sessions over two days to try and meet the needs of all our parents. A written report is sent home during the summer term with the opportunity for parents to see teachers if they wish to discuss the report.

We offer opportunities for you to see our school in action, with reading mornings, workshops and class assemblies. We also encourage volunteers to support us in school, with listening to readers, supporting in the classrooms and through our Parent Teacher Association, which we call FOWS (Friends of Whitehills). The connection between school and home is so important to us.
Staff are available prior to the start of the school day to meet and greet your child and to give parents opportunities to raise any queries or concerns. We are always contactable through our staff emails and by appointment. We always want to work alongside our families to ensure all our children have success, not just at Whitehills, but throughout their adult life.
