Welcome to Whitehills Library – at the heart of our school

All classes visit the library regularly to select their own book.  Children in EYFS to Year 5 have a library session every week and Year 6 children will visit the library fortnightly.  Most children will change their book every week, but if a child wishes to complete reading an unfinished book, it can be renewed.

Our passion for reading ensures children from EYFS upwards value our library.  Our youngest children have library sessions and regular story time. Older children are asked to recommend new books for the library which we aim to keep current and well-stocked with everything from picture books to graphic novels, and covering topics including Space, Animals, History and much, much more.

In Years 3 and 4, we teach some library skills so the children get to know how the books are organised within the library.  From Years 5 and 6, we select Pupil Librarians and train them to scan the books in and out, to shelve them and to assist other pupils in searching for the perfect book.

We use Libresoft Librarian for our library management system. Our school library catalogue can be accessed here (CLICK HERE FOR LIBRESOFT LIBRARIAN)

You can log onto our library catalogue from home.  You and your child can browse the books that we have in the library, see which new books have been added recently, check your child’s loans and read and write book reviews.  Each child has an individual login.  Your child’s class teacher will be able to assist with logging in.

At Whitehills Primary School, we know how important reading for pleasure is.  Below are links to some great websites to help with choosing books and getting tips on encouraging your child to read.  You are the best role model for this; talk about reading; share your favourite books; ask your child what they like or don’t like about their books.

The children’s information book publishers, Dorling Kindersley, have a great website for those more interested in facts than fiction.  Arranged by school topics, it is brilliant for helping with homework or for those who just want to know more!
